Strengthening resilience is a core focus for Ngā Pūāwai o Rangatahi.  As a hauora programme for rangatahi, Ngā Pūāwai o Rangatahi works within a framework of aroha, manaakitanga and kotahitanga in the Counties Manukau area.

This whānau initiative is for rangatahi between the ages of 12-24 years of age and runs over a 10-week period.  The aim of the programme is to connect rangatahi to their identity and a sense of belonging, empowering them to take a lead role in navigating their future.

Teaching approaches of building resilience and well-being. The programme provides a safe and supportive space where rangatahi can explore positive pathways or changes in their lives.

Goal setting is a focus in wānanga.  Utilising systems such as SMART planning, rangatahi also explore what to do in a crises and how to develop plans for wellness.  In addition, rangatahi are able to participate in “know your rights hikoi” presentation by George Flavell (Ngāti Ata iwi kaitiaki).

Ngā Pūāwai o Rangatahi utilise resources and initiatives that are kaupapa Māori and rangatahi centred approaches.  In doing so, their ‘by Māori, for Māori’ approach, is reinforced with a by ‘rangatahi, for rangatahi’ focus.   Educating rangatahi to strengthen their pathway forward.
